16. Chuck Burgi

The newest episode of Guess That Record is the first to be recorded outside of Calgary, as Jackson travelled to Seattle to interview Chuck Burgi for the second time! Chuck is currently the drummer for Billy Joel, a role he’s held since 2006. Chuck has also worked with artists like Hall & Oates, Meatloaf, Blue Öyster Cult, and many more. Jackson and Chuck met up the day before Billy Joel took to the stage at T-Mobile Park to go over Chuck’s routine on the road, and how he approaches select songs from the Billy Joel songbook.

His big break came in 1977, when he co-produced Dan Hill’s smash hit “Sometimes When We Touch.” The single reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was nominated for a Grammy. Fred has since gone on to work with Billy Joel, America, Jimmy Webb, Johnny Mathis, and Kris Kristofferson. In the episode, Jackson and Fred talk about how he got into the music business, his work composing soundtracks for TV and film, and his new book “Unplugged.”
