Behind the scenes of Episode 9, and a tribute to Floyd Sneed

Episode 9 of Guess That Record has a lot going for it. It’s the first episode of 2023, and it’s also releasing on the one year anniversary of our first episode! I have to be honest when I say I didn’t expect the podcast to be as successful as it’s been. This show has provided me the opportunity to meet so many incredible people. We have a lot of cool things in the works, so be sure to stick around.

Our first episode of 2023 has Susan Rogers as the guest. I was so excited to speak with Susan, because she worked as Prince’s engineer during his heyday in the 1980s. As a huge fan of Prince, it was amazing to hear Susan’s stories. Prince was a very private person, so not many people have the insight that she does on him. On top of that, she worked on so many of his most well known songs. Let’s Go Crazy, Purple Rain, Raspberry Beret, Mountains, Sign O the Times, U Got The Look, etc. She was there for all of it. Susan is also the first guest we’ve had on the show that strictly served as a producer/engineer, so I enjoyed learning about how she worked being on the other side of the recording studio from where the musicians are. Our discussion was so good that we ran over time and had to meet up a second time to finish the episode, so I really appreciate the fact she was cool enough to do that.

2023 also brought some sad news our way. Floyd Sneed, the guest of episode 7, passed away on January 27. The news was very shocking, as I had only recorded with him a few months prior. When I spoke with his assistant Dawna, she informed me that Floyd’s appearance on the podcast was his last interview. I was so honoured to have that privilege. I admired the fact that Floyd was a Calgarian that was a part of a very successful band, and I’m glad I was able to speak with him and preserve his story.
