7. David Paich

This week’s episode of Guess That Record is a big one, as Jackson interviews keyboardist David Paich from Toto! As a founding member of Toto, David wrote the band’s biggest songs including Hold the Line, Rosanna, and the all-time classic Africa (a song in which David also handles the lead vocal duties). Outside of his work with Toto, David has been a prolific session player having played on albums such as Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs, and Michael Jackson’s Thriller. In this episode, Jackson and David talk about how his father’s music career inspired him, how songs like Africa continue to be relevant, and what it’s like to work with famous musicians.

Guess That Record is a podcast hosted by Canadian musician Jackson Reed. Each week Jackson will sit down with a special guest for an in-depth interview about their career and experiences. Guess That Record returns with Jackson interviewing Midge Ure! Hailing from Scotland and having been active in music since the early 70s, Midge is best known for serving as the frontman for the band Ultravox. The group had a string of hit singles on the UK charts in the 80s including “Vienna,” and “Dancing With Tears in My Eyes.” Midge is best known for his collaboration with Bob Geldof, co-writing “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” and helping to organize Live Aid. In the interview Jackson and Midge talk about his brief stint in Thin Lizzy, performing at Live Aid with Ultravox, and his new album “A Man Of Two Worlds.”
